W2 issue?

My former employer said he couldn’t send me a W2 because the company issuing the W2 needs a letter of resignation. What is the validity of it?

  1. Sounds like bs to me. Legally they have to mail them by January 31st. Resignation letter or no letter.

Call the IRS toll free at 800-829-1040 or make an appointment to visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC). The IRS will send your employer a letter requesting that they furnish you a corrected Form W-2 within ten days.

  2. I dont think they can hold your W-2 hostage. You can also take your last paycheck and kinda get info you need from that. I would call the IRS
