So, I just passed the FPC and I am starting to study for the CPP exam and I was wondering if there were more payroll certifications outside of the APA. 1. Bookkeeping is a transactional and administrative role that handles the day-to-day task of recording financial transactions, including purchases, receipts, sales, and payments.

^ some bookkeepers may also process payroll, but not all payroll processors do bookkeeping. In a larger organization, aka something publicly traded, these items are kept separate – or the people at a site level have a large restriction of what they can actually do.

I’ve done payroll my entire career and I’ve never had anything to do with managing the bank account. I think it really depends on what step you want to take next. A bookkeeping certification would be next to meaningless for me because it does not align with the HR/Total Rewards path I’ve taken.
